As the evenings get lighter
And the days longer
There is the promise
Of spring to come.
Wishful thinking perhaps,
But who cares?
The January skies,
Remarkably blue and sunny,
Lift the spirits
And renew our hope.
Bulbs are pushing through
And shoots are sprouting.
Snow drops, the early birds,
Wink away in the woods,
Like cheeky devils.
Winter isn’t over.
Spring hasn’t arrived.
But nature is responding
To its call.
