Flash fiction 100 – who’s the boss?

Our new neighbours, a couple, came round to introduce themselves. We made small talk, had coffee, and discussed local issues. The woman asked where I got my blinds. The man was adamant that they were not having blinds. The window frames are new and the screws will damage the PVC, he explained, logically. Discussion ensued of other options: nets, a screen, shutters, nothing. Anything, he said, but no screws. I looked at the woman’s face, and smiled to myself as I wondered what the outcome would be. Today I walked past and saw their shiny, new blind in the window.
